Hit the reset on your skin with incredible results while promoting the natural healing process.

What is Microneedling with SkinPen?

Hitting reset on your skin can be as simple as a short minimally invasive microneedling treatment. SkinPen creates micro-channels (microscopic holes) at a rate of 1600 per second with little or no pain. These wounds stimulate your skin, kicking its healing process into high gear. Best of all, SkinPen doesn’t rely on heat or chemicals, so the results are natural and safe for all skin tones and types. SkinPen® is a state-of-the-art, FDA-cleared micro-needling device. Microneedling tools typically roll the microneedles over your skin, but the SkinPen® is more accurate and much more effective.

It delivers tiny needle pricks vertically, which means it's more precise and can treat small areas that bulky rollers can't reach, such as the contours around your nose and mouth. Your skin will look and feel healthier with little downtime! SkinPen is extremely versatile and can be used on all body parts and on all skin types.

Your provider at REJUV Aesthetics & Wellness Encinitas or Carlsbad CA can adjust the length of the needle to customize your treatment, depending on your skin thickness and type. The SkinPen® controls needle action using a medical-grade motor that creates micro-injuries rapidly while minimizing cellular damage thus creating cellular turnover and collagen production. The result is highly effective remodeling of the skin while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact.

SkinPen Works Using a Simple 3-Step Process

  • Inflammation

SkinPen’s microneedles pierce the skin, triggering your immune system to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow, and begin to create new tissue.

  • Proliferation

The micro-wounds created by SkinPen are rebuilt with new granulation cells that include collagen proteins. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.

  • Remodeling

Remodeling The wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels which are comprised of rich collagen and elastin proteins. These proteins improve skin youthfulness.

Frequently seen skin conditions that benefit from Microneedling include:

  • Wrinkles, creases and fine lines

  • Scarring from traumatic injury

  • Acne scarring

  • Stretch marks

  • Enlarged pores

  • Irregular, rough surface texture

  • Poor tone

  • Abnormal hyperpigmentation (melasma)

  • Sun spots

Microneedling with PRP (platelet rich plasma)

You may have already heard of the vampire facial this treatment, formally referred to as platelet-rich plasma (or prp) with microneedling, has gained a ton of popularity over the past several years and for good reason — it naturally amplifies the already amazing results of microneedling.

To maximize recovery & results we recommend PRP with Microneedling. The primary purpose of plasma is to transport nutrients, fighting diseases and circulating hormones and proteins to the body’s areas that need them most. Platelet-Rich Plasma is liquid gold! A concentrated platelet component from your own blood containing nutrient-rich cells that contain protein growth factors and more. When used during treatment, Platelet-Rich Plasma stimulates the production of collagen and elastin using your own blood platelets. It accelerates the skin’s own healing process, helps regenerate tissue and creates fresh new healthy skin cells. Not only that it can also help drastically reduce recovery time and boost microneedling overall results.

Your blood comprises four main components: red blood cells - white blood cells - platelets and plasma. We all have a plethora of platelets which are cells that circulate in our body. When there is a damaged blood vessel, platelets bind together to repair this damage efficiently. They are made primarily in the bone marrow, where your red and white blood cells are produced. Plasma is the single largest component of your blood, clear yellow-colored liquid portion making up approximately 55% of blood.

Microneedling with Stem Cell Derived Exosomes

Microneedling with the addition of stem cell derived exosomes is an innovative and cutting-edge skincare procedure that combines the benefits of microneedling with the regenerative properties of exosomes. Exosomes are tiny, cell-derived vesicles packed with growth factors, cytokines, and proteins that play a crucial role in cell communication and tissue repair. When utilized in conjunction with microneedling, these potent exosomes are applied topically and penetrate deeply into the skin through the microchannels created by the microneedles. This synergistic approach enhances the rejuvenating effects of microneedling by promoting collagen production, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and improving overall skin texture. Moreover, exosomes work holistically to target specific skin concerns and revitalize the complexion from within, offering a natural and non-invasive alternative to traditional cosmetic procedures with a significant reduction in downtime. As a result, microneedling with exosomes has gained popularity as a safe and effective option for individuals seeking to achieve radiant, youthful skin.

Microneedling FAQ

How is Microneedling Performed?

Microneedling can be performed using a SkinPen®, a medical-grade, state-of-the-art Microneedling application tool available only through medical professionals. The treatment typically takes about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the size and number of areas treated and the degree of treatment requested.

What areas of the skin can be treated?

SkinPen’s® variable needle depth allows for maximum versatility, making it safe and effective to use on a variety of parts of the body, including the face, neck, décolletage and more. Talk to your SkinPen® provider to discuss your specific goals & needs.

What can I expect during the treatment?

A topical anesthetic is applied approx. 15 minutes prior to treatment. Generally, patients report feeling just the slight vibration of the SkinPen® during the treatment with little or no pain.

Is there downtime after Microneedling?

The total healing time depends on each individual. Most patients have some slight swelling and redness/pinkness (like a mild to moderate sunburn) for two to four days following the microneedling procedure. Some flaking on days 2-5 is normal.

When will I see results?

The natural repair process of your own skin continues to progress through the course of several weeks although some experience immediate results within days. Damage that has occurred over an extensive period of time won’t disappear immediately but progressively. You may not see the final result for up to several months following your final session. *Individual results will vary.

How many sessions are recommended?

The number of procedures required will be based upon your individual procedure goals and the overall health and quality of your skin. Most patients receive a series of three procedures spaced about four to six weeks apart.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) FAQ

Benefits of SkinPen with PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)

SkinPen with PRP works in several ways to restore your skin’s damaged tissue and help your body rebuild new, healthier skin with minimal downtime. We can target several areas, creating a unique and individualized treatment approach to match your personal biology and desired goals.

How Skinpen with PRP Injection Works

SkinPen with PRP works by creating a series of controlled micro-injuries, which work to stimulate the natural healing process in your body while minimizing cellular damage to your tissue. This causes your body to remodel existing tissue and boost collagen production.

We begin by piercing the skin, which stimulates an immune system response and increases blood flow to the area, creating new tissue while disinfecting the wounds and removing debris. Your body will then rebuild the wound by creating new granulation cells as part of your body’s extracellular matrix. This will also cause a new series of blood vessels to develop. Finally, your body will replace the injured tissue with fresh new dermal tissue and blood vessels, causing regeneration and remodeled tissue structures.

What to expect with SkinPen and PRP combined

We begin by meeting with you to discuss your unique needs and then develop an individualized treatment plan that helps you get to your desired results and goals. Your treatment plan may require a series of visits or combination of treatments.

At each of your visits, we will apply topical numbing solution to your skin about 15 minutes before the treatment begins. This is to ensure your experience as comfortable as possible. Some patients experience minor sensitivity during the treatment, but most find the sensation mild and easily tolerable.

For most individuals, the recovery process will last about 48-72 hours after a SkinPen with PRP treatment. You will also need to keep your skin hydrated after a SkinPen with PRP treatment and limit heat and UV exposure for the first couple of days. Your skin may be a bit sensitive at first and feel similar to a sunburn. SkinPen with PRP treatments can be repeated as frequently as monthly and combined with other services to maximize reslults.

Platelet Rich Plasma For Hair Restoration

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a treatment that has been used in several ways at our Carlsbad & Encinitas CA locaitons, but recent research shows that this therapy is a promising option for hair restoration as well, with the ability to regenerate inactive hair follicles into growing again. This means that it only works where there is some existing hair – if there is no hair follicle, PRP cannot encourage growth. The main advantages of PRP are that it is a minimally invasive procedure that is virtually painless & requires no or minimal downtime for recovery. Additionally, because PRP treatments use the patient’s own blood and plasma, there are minimal risks of side effects.

PRP Hair Restoration Process

When you choose PRP to address thinning hair and come in for your treatment, our providers will extract a small amount of your own blood. The blood is then processed through a centrifuge in a matter of minutes, separating the platelets from the other cells in your blood sample. The PRP that is obtained is then carefully injected into the desired area on your scalp for treatment. Platelets contain vast amounts of stimulating growth factors that can boost hair growth & strengthen existing healthy follicles. It’s a short, virtually painless procedure done right in our office in multiple sessions, & offers very minial side effects.

PRP Hair Restoration Aftercare

Post-procedure there are actually no restrictions – you can return to standard activities & even shower as well as wash your hair. You may notice a slight sensation of heat in the area, similar to a sunburn, but this is temporary and resolves relatively quickly. For optimal results, we recommend a series of treatments based on your goals, which is something that you and the provider will discuss when coming up with your individualized treatment plan.

What To Expect Post PRP Hair Restoration Sessions

Results aren’t immediately visible, but you will start to see a gradual change in your hair as the growth factors go to work. Typical results are seen within two to six months, at which point your hair should begin to look thicker and you’ll be able to see noticeable, positive results.
